The heartache of supporting a sick child is inexplicable. The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is situated beside the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York (formerly Schneider Children’s Hospital), where they offer warm beds and some of the comforts of home to the families of sick children being cared for next door. The parents and siblings of these sick children are able to stay nearby in order to support the patients around-the-clock, and the staff and volunteers and the Ronald McDonald House are available to support the families who put all their energy into staying strong for their kids.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) is an organization made of positive, professional roles models seeking to make a difference in the lives of young boys and girls. BBBSLI believes that every child has the ability to realize their limitless potential, and helps them to find it through the support of their Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Not every child is fortunate to grow up in an environment or community that fosters personal growth or a strong educational foundation, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have the right to a positive place to flourish. BBBSLI emphasizes personal accountability, both for oneself and for one’s community, and as they teach their “Littles” to be accountable for themselves and their actions, the “Bigs” hold themselves accountable for the success of their communities as a whole.
